BIG Insurance Ltd, trading as Bournemouth Insurance Group (BIG), has been acquired by GRP’s southern hub Alan and Thomas Insurance Group (A&T) for an undisclosed sum.
Following the deal, the firm revealed the Bournemouth-based BIG will remain at its Winton office, and all the team including vendors Jason Hicks and Paul Hicks will stay on under new ownership.
BIG was founded as a family business in 1972 and writes commercial and personal lines insurance including private clients, fleet, commercial property, D&O, cyber and marine through its own specialist Nationwide Marine Insurance division.
Julian Boughton, A&T CEO, said the latest deal for BIG follows on from the purchase of Aquilla Insurance Brokers in November last year. A&T has acquired 13 businesses since it was founded in 1975, and this acquisition is the third since it became part of GRP in 2017.
He said: “BIG has a local community footprint (A&T are headquartered in Poole), and I have followed their progress closely over the years.
”Jason, Paul and the rest of the team have a passion to get the very best deals for their customers. I am impressed by the team there and I’m really pleased they have chosen us to support them on their future journey.”
Hicks added: “A&T are one of the leading brokerages in this part of the world, and we share the same commitment to high quality client servicing as they do. A&T and the wider GRP group are the right custodians for BIG and our clients as we look ahead to the future.
“Becoming part of A&T was the natural step for us to enable us to accelerate our growth and take advantage of the opportunities for high quality broking as the economy emerges from the pandemic.”
