London-based underwriter Landmark has announced the opening of an office in Canada.
The office, in Toronto, is being headed up by Fergus Meldrum, who joins Landmark Canada Ltd as a non-executive director.
Meldrum has worked in Canadian group insurance and institutional investment for over two decades.
He currently oversees more than $800m (£585m) in group retirement assets and is the vice-president of business development and investment strategies.
Landmark recently obtained the registered insurance brokers of Ontario (RIBO) license and is now licensed to carry on business in Ontario. It intends to become licensed in all provinces and territories in Canada over the next couple of months with the aim of adding Quebec in 2022.
Ross Lazaroo-Hood, Landmark CEO, said: “I am excited to be welcoming Fergus Meldrum into the Landmark Group and to our newly independently regulated branch in Toronto, which represents another important step in our controlled expansion. Fergus is well-known and highly regarded in the Canadian financial sector and brings huge expertise plus experience.
“We will be announcing our upcoming product lines over the course of the coming weeks, which will only strengthen our offering to our brokers and markets as we develop our focus on our Canadian strategic initiatives.”
Meldrum said: “It is an honour to be asked to join Landmark, after seeing the group’s successes and growth over just a few short years. The move into Canada comes at the right time for this established MGA Group and into the mature Canadian marketplace.
“Experience and capacity will bring our brokers a dynamic alternative market to present clients who’re seeking their insurance solutions. I look forward to working with Ross Lazaroo-Hood and the Board assisting them with their growth plans in Canada.”
