BHSI names new head of general casualty

The group has appointed Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite as the new head of general casualty. She joins from Chubb, where she was corporate casualty manager

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced the appointment of  Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite, to head of general casualty, UK.

Alder-Smurthwaite joins BHSI from Chubb, where she spent 12 years in increasingly senior positions, most recently London corporate casualty manager. She began her career on the claims side of the business at Gerling Insurance. 

She also earned a BA with Honours in European Studies, International Business, from the University of Central Lancashire.

Hilary Browne, head of casualty, UK and Europe, at BHSI, said: “Caroline has more than two decades of underwriting experience spanning a wide range of customers, including corporate and large multinational captive accounts.” 

“She will play a pivotal leadership role in bringing BHSI’s bespoke coverage, financial stability and service excellence to customers across the UK and around the globe, and it is my pleasure to welcome her to our UK team.”
