QBE active underwriter to retire

David Harries will step down after spending 34 years at the firm

QBE has announced that the active underwriter and head of financial lines for its Syndicate 386, David Harries, will be stepping down from his position.

Harries has been with the firm for 34 years, spending the last seven as active underwriter of QBE Syndicate 386.

Speaking on the retirement, Sam Harrison, managing director at QBE, said: “Syndicate 386 has a long and successful history at Lloyd’s and David has been instrumental in this success.

“I thank David for his important contributions to QBE over his long and distinguished career and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Cécile Fresneau will take on the role of active underwriter in addition to her existing responsibilities as executive director for UK insurance, subject to the firm’s board approval.

Harrison added: “Cécile’s extensive experience, including the past three years at QBE, means she is well-suited to lead the next phase of Syndicate 386’s development.”

A transition period will take place with Harries supporting Fresneau throughout the first half of 2021.
